Issue Position

We need to encourage good businesses to locate and expand here in Spokane, in order to create good jobs that put people back to work and get food on the table. Greater Spokane Incorporated, our Chamber of Commerce, is working hard to promote our area and local elected officials are keeping local budgets balanced, but state government needs to change to allow our area to grow its way out of the recession.

Regulations that might conceivably make sense for the crowded Puget Sound area only add to the cost of doing business here with no benefit. Our legislators need to be able to stand up for Eastern Washington and not go along with tax and regulatory schemes from the other side of the state. We do not need people from Seattle telling us in Spokane how to live. Spokane has the opportunity to grow great businesses in its medical and high tech sectors, if state government does not get in the way. "Health Care Reform" and new taxes are pushing us in the wrong direction.

If elected, one of my first actions would be to work across partisan lines, bringing together major employers like Avista with political leaders like the mayor and county commissioners to work together for sustainable job growth.

My opponent has failed to make any real effort or to show any true leadership to reduce the burdensome government regulations that are driving good business out of our state.
