Pascrell: Health Care Law "Far From Perfect"

Paterson businessman Roland Straten, Republican Congressional candidate in New Jersey's 8th District, today criticized career politician Bill Pascrell for saying the recently passed healthcare bill is "far from perfect" and "we (Congress) didn't get it right".

"I'm glad we finally found something Bill Pascrell and I can agree on," said Straten. "Bill Pascrell has realized what a majority of Americans have known for a long time: that in their haste to "do something' on healthcare reform, Congress passed a bad bill."

Straten continued, "This is what happens when you pass 2,000-plus page bills without reading them. Reports of the unintended consequences of this bill are already starting to surface, and I'm sure these early reports are just the tip of the iceberg. As a former small business owner, I know these reports would make me reluctant to hire anyone or make any major expenditures until I knew the full impact of this bill on my business. I'm sure this uncertainty is a major part of the high unemployment rate we continue to see in this country."

Straten pointed to the latest Rasmussen tracking poll which shows 58% of those surveyed favoring repeal of the healthcare law passed earlier this year.

"When Nancy Pelosi and Bill Pascrell voted for this awful, bloated healthcare bill, they thought that as Americans found out more about, it would become more popular; in fact, the exact opposite has happened. This is one more piece of evidence that Bill Pascrell is out of touch with his constituents. His big government, high tax agenda is killing jobs in the 8th District of New Jersey and people know it."

"If I am elected to Congress, I will vote to repeal the healthcare bill and replace it with reform legislation based on free markets and competition. I am going to spend the next three months reminding people of Bill Pascrell's support for the job-killing Pelosi agenda and contrasting his vision of the future with mine."
