Dear Friend,
I wanted you to see a copy of the press release I sent regarding yesterday's misguided vote in the House:
The Democratic Congressional leadership just doesn't get it: East Alabamians are sick and tired of all the spending and want it stopped.
Today, I voted against a $26 billion "emergency" Stimulus spending bill that passed the House 247-161.
Speaker Pelosi quickly called Congress back into session today to spend another $26 billion in new Stimulus funds as a payback for union bosses and their special interests.
Hidden in the bill is another job-killing tax increase on American employers that I am concerned could threaten good paying jobs in East Alabama.
I opposed this bill because East Alabamians tell me they're sick and tired of the tax and spend policies they believe are hurting the private sector and only grow the reach of the federal government.
H.R. 1586 provides $26 billion in spending to state and local governments, but concerns me that this legislation only continues the failed policies of the $787 billion Stimulus Bill passed last year, and does little to help the private sector create jobs.
Congress should focus on helping the private sector save and create jobs instead of growing the dependency of states on the federal government.
Your Congressman,
Mike Rogers
