Making Taxes Simple and Fair

The United States tax code contains more than two million words on Americans favorite subject. The recent discoveries of significant tax underpayments by Charlie Rangel, Timothy Geithner, and Tom Daschel should be evidence enough that the tax code is overly burdensome and complex. The current tax code discourages ingenuity, restricts economic growth, and punishes saving. The tax system in America must be overhauled and simplified from its core.

I am a proponent of the Fair Tax. This is a common sense way to overhaul the current tax code. The Fair Tax replaces all federal income taxes, which essentially eliminates the need for the IRS, with a national retail sales tax. This solution is simple, fair, and completely voluntary. What's better, this allows American's, not the government, to control their own earnings. Aside from this broad tax reform, we need to continue tax breaks for low and middle-income Americans, make tax cuts on capital gains and dividends permanent, eliminate the "Death Tax", make permanent all the research and development tax credits for businesses making those investments, and we ought to lower the corporate tax rate from 35% to 25%.
