Capito Announces This Week's YouCut Winner

Press Release

Date: July 22, 2010
Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito, R. W. Va., took to the House floor today to urge her colleagues to vote for this week's winning YouCut proposal which would prohibit taxpayer funding for first-class subsidies on Amtrak, saving taxpayers up to $1.2 billion over ten years.

"Since its inception, over 1.3 million Americans have used YouCut as a platform to tell Washington to stop the out-of-control spending. Folks all across America are tightening their budgets and finding ways to save in this tough economy. And they're rightly disgusted by the gross abuse of taxpayer money on pet projects and inefficient federal programs," stated Capito, a member of the Economic Recovery Working Group.

YouCut is designed to change the culture of spending into a culture of saving in Congress. It encourages Americans to vote, both online and on cell phones, on spending cuts they want to see the House enact. Thousands of Americans have also suggested their own ideas on how congress can save.
