'Gap-gate' Condemned by Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart
Diaz-Balart Dismisses Democrat Defenses

WASHINGTON-Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart (R-Fla.) today condemned Sandy Berger's "Gap-gate" and dismissed Democrats' defenses of him.

"I am pleased that the House Government Reform Committee has launched a Congressional investigation into this potentially serious breach of national security by Clinton's National Security Advisor Sandy Berger who most recently served as an informal policy advisor to John Kerry. I look forward to having more details of Gap-gate made public," Diaz-Balart said.

"Democrats are showing more concern over the timing of this news than the seriousness of Berger's actions," Diaz-Balart continued. "I don't care about the timing. I only care about the fact that Berger stole classified documents from the National Archives, even 'inadvertently' stuffing them into his clothes. Someone like him clearly had to know that what he did was illegal and a serious matter of national security.

"My hope is that Sandy Berger's Gap-gate treachery - whether inadvertent or not - did not hamper the 9/11 Commission's ability to draw solid and accurate conclusions," Diaz-Balart concluded.
