Issue Position

The Declaration of Independence states that our inalienable rights include, "…Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness…" That belief compelled our Founding Fathers to fight, sacrifice and die to create this country.

Our constitutional rights must be protected; government must not be allowed to undermine them. Daniel Webster is an ardent defender of individual freedoms.

* Sponsored the Private Property Rights Protection Act of 1995 and Eminent Domain Amendment of 2006 to protect Floridians from overzealous bureaucrats that attempt to take their private property;

* Voting is one of the individual freedoms Americans enjoy, in 2001 Senator Webster was the lead Senate negotiator on the Election Reform Package that assisted counties in updating their voting systems and established the Overseas Absentee Voting Act to protect the voting rights of American's serving and living overseas;

* Honored Florida's "Greatest Generation" our seniors by championing policies that improved quality of care for nursing home and long-term facility residents and encouraged Home Health; and

* The Right to Life is the most fundamental right of all, SB 804 in 2005 sought to protect that right by prohibiting an individual, in a persistent vegetative state, from being denied sustenance or hydration unless there is a written living will, advance directive or designation of a surrogate authorizing the suspension of life-prolonging procedures.
