Issue Position

Personal responsibility is a fundamental freedom that American's have enjoyed since the inception of our country, but is a freedom that must be protected and never taken for granted. Washington must encourage personal responsibility and accountability.

As a State, Community and family leader, Daniel Webster has always sought to improve personal responsibility and teach individuals they are accountable for their decisions.

* Reformed Florida's Welfare Program to reduce costs and promote personal responsibility by reducing cash aid, while providing assistance with transitional child care, transportation, and job-training classes;

* Increased penalties on re-offenders as a deterrent to keep individuals from returning to a life of crime;

* Championed policies that improved safety for all and fought those that restricted personal responsibility as he passed tougher Driving under the Influence laws while opposing primary seatbelt enforcement; and

* Promoted academic excellence while Speaker by supporting legislation that required grade point averages for high school graduation be raised from 1.5 to 2.0.
