Issue Position

Floridians work hard daily to put food on the table, a roof over their family's head, prepare for the future, and invest in the education of their children. The answer to economic challenges is not to take more dollars from the hard-working people of Florida.

As Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives, Daniel Webster reduced House Operational Costs and worked to spend taxpayer dollars with wisdom and care. During the time of economic challenges in 2001 and 2008, Senator Webster worked with his Senate colleagues to reduce government spending and prioritize funds to build Florida's future.

This common-sense approach to budgeting is desperately needed in Washington where Congressional spending and deficit financing is mortgaging our children and grandchildren's future.

Whether Representative or Senator, Daniel Webster has worked diligently to allow Floridians to keep more of their hard-earned dollars, by reducing taxes and prioritizing and reducing government spending.

* Back to School Tax-Free Shopping -- Senator Webster sponsored legislation to provide Florida's families with meaningful tax relief by offering a "back to school" tax free shopping holiday; and

* Intangible Tax Removal -- Senator Webster continued the commitment made by Republican leaders to eliminate the intangibles tax by sponsoring legislation to remove 700,000 filers from the tax rolls in 2001.
