There are two bills presently making their way around the U.S. House and the U.S. Senate. HR25 and S296 that would create for Americans what is known as a "fair" or flat tax. Think about this for a moment: An even playing field, no more income taxes being extorted from American citizens by the Internal Revenue Service and a tax code that is 133 pages versus the current 60,000 pages.
American companies will see lower cost of doing business as a result of the Fair Tax, resulting in lower costs for consumers - implement this consumption tax and the aggregate result is a "push." The cost of goods will not rise for consumers as some have argued. As a graduate of the Naval Academy with a degree in economics, I have long supported a flat consumption tax and the movement is continuing to grow as more and more Americans realize the benefits of the Fair Tax.
