Today, U.S. Senators Kay Bailey Hutchison and John Cornyn called on President Barack Obama to expedite the consideration of the State of Texas' request for a state of emergency declaration as severe weather from Tropical Storm Alex poses a threat to 19 Texas counties.

Dear Mr. President:

The State of Texas requested a state of emergency declaration for the State of Texas as severe weather from Tropical Storm Alex poses a threat to 19 Texas counties.

We urge you to expedite the consideration of this request, as the declaration is critical to ensuring that important recovery assistance is made available to the residents of Aransas, Bee, Brooks, Cameron, Duval, Hidalgo, Jim Hogg, Jim Wells, Kenedy, Kleberg, Live Oak, McMullen, Nueces, Refugio, San Patricio, Starr, Webb, Willacy and Zapata counties as soon as possible.

We appreciate the efforts underway by the Federal Government to review the State's request in a timely manner, and ask that you give it due consideration. You may be certain that we will work with the Administration to aid the victims of this potential disaster.
