Senator Cornyn's Statement on the General Petraeus Nomination Hearing

U.S. Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) today issued the following statement after the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee's hearing on the nomination of General David H. Petraeus to be the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan:

"There is no doubt that General Petraeus is the right man to lead our troops in Afghanistan," said Senator Cornyn. "He is a tried and true field commander who wrote the book on modern counterinsurgency strategy. He deserves our nation's thanks for accepting this assignment, and my prayers and best wishes go with him to Afghanistan. I anticipate he will be confirmed quickly and he will have my vote and full support."
