U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, today issued the following statement after the Senate passed by voice vote legislation extending the National Flood Insurance Program until September 30, 2010:
"Just minutes before our first hurricane of the season made landfall, Senate Democrats finally decided to move out of the way and allow the important flood insurance extension that thousands of households have been waiting for to pass the Senate. While long overdue, this is welcome news for Texas homeowners and renters living along our coast and in floodplains. With forecasters predicting a busy hurricane season before us, I'm pleased the flood insurance program has been extended to assist Texans in safeguarding against flood damage and losses."
