Issue Position: Economy

Issue Position

Despite recent good economic news, we are still in the midst of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression of the 1930s. I believe that fiscally responsible management is needed while helping those affected by the economic downturn. The government should be investing in both the present and future in order to stabilize and grow our economy. This investment will help lower the burden on middle-class families.

* I believe that the housing market must be stabilized by extending the first time homebuyer's tax credit.
* There must be greater accountability in the financial services industry.

Consumer protection reforms will stop predatory lending and abuses by the mortgage industry and credit card companies.

Our way of life has been threatened by the latest economic meltdown, and instead of sitting idly by, members of Congress must take the urgent, necessary steps to prevent this from happening again.
