Americans are Sticking to Their Budget, Why Not Congress?

Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) released the following statement in reaction to today's announcement by House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer that the Democrats will not approve a budget that sets spending guidelines for the new fiscal year. The House has never failed to pass an annual budget resolution since the current budget rules were put in place in 1974.

"As a mother of three who oversees the family budget, I cannot fathom simply deciding not to plan out the family finances for the New Year. Once again, the Democrats are unwilling to address the out-of-control spending that has become the norm in Washington.

We are facing record deficits and a slow economic recovery. Americans want good jobs but can't find them. Small businesses aren't hiring in fear of higher taxes. The national debt is unsustainable. Enough is enough. It's time that the Democrats take a serious look at what they're doing--and not doing--to address the lack of fiscal responsibility in Congress. That starts with creating and abiding to an honest budget."
