This week, America voted for a YouCut proposal to prohibit new funding for the IRS for the purpose of enforcing the individual health care mandate of the new healthcare law. The funds would be used to hire thousands of additional IRS agents and employees. This cut would save taxpayers between $5 and $10 billion.
"Americans are once again expressing their frustration over the reckless spending in Washington. People are sick and tired of the gross abuse of taxpayer money on pet projects and questionable programs. The overwhelming response to YouCut is proof positive that Congress needs to rein in the spending. At the end of the day, Americans know who is working to save, and who is working to spend," stated Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va), a member of the Economic Recovery Working Group.
"The debt has grown by $4.9 billion per day since this Administration took office. This, coupled with rising unemployment and higher taxes, is threatening our economic recovery," stated Capito.
In the past five weeks, nearly one million Americans have voted for spending cuts they want to see their government make.
