Sessions: No Budget Makes Dems Unfit to Govern

Statement

U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions today released the following statement in response to Democrat Majority Leader Steny Hoyer's announcement that the House will not pass a budget for the first time since the 1974 Budget Act:

"As the American people know, a budget is central to the success of any family, business, organization or government. With our national debt over $13 Trillion and rising rapidly, now more than ever the U.S. government needs a budget. This Congress is drowning our nation in debt, committing generational theft through record deficit spending that spells bankruptcy for future generations.

"Unwilling to face catastrophic budget projections from their unchecked spending sprees, Democrats have instead opted for dereliction of duty. Disguised in hollow rhetoric of fiscal responsibility, the Majority's real fiscal plan is to keep their foot on the spending gas peddle to accomplish their big-government, job-killing agenda at any cost.

"Without a budget, Democrats are forcing Congress to miss an opportunity to rein in government spending and enforce fiscal discipline needed for sustained economic recovery. The 15 million unemployed Americans understand that the Majority's spending binges are not creating the jobs they need. Unfortunately for the unemployed, no budget means more of the same failed tax, borrow, and spend policies from this Congress.

"Failing to produce a budget is simply unacceptable. I agree with Democrat Budget Committee Chairman John Spratt: "If you can't budget, you can't govern.' The American people deserve better."
