Statement: Sanders on Resignation of Gen. McChrystal

Statement

Date: June 23, 2010
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Defense

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) today issued the following statement after President Obama accepted Gen. Stanley McChrystal's resignation and replaced him with Gen. David Petraeus, who once led U.S. forces in Iraq:

"Gen. McChrystal stepped over the bounds of what is acceptable in a military officer, and the president was right to accept his resignation. The Constitution is very clear that the president is the commander-in-chief of our armed forces and that position must be respected by his subordinates."
