Congressman McGovern Issues Statement on Afghanistan, General McChrystal's Comments

Statement

"Clearly, General McChrystal's comments were inappropriate. But I am much more concerned about the direction of our policy in Afghanistan than I am about the general's comments. I'm concerned about the corrupt and incompetent Karzai government. I'm concerned about the hundreds of billions of dollars we're spending on "nation-building' in Afghanistan when we need to do some more nation-building here at home. And above all, I am concerned about the safety and well-being of our troops and their families who have sacrificed so much. I believe that we need a thorough re-examination of our policy. This is much, much bigger than a few ill-chosen words."
