Congressman Jared Polis will be hosting a free job hunters boot camp on Monday, June 7.
Job hunters will rigorously work on upping their game in a competitive job hunting market; working on things such as building resume muscle, how to flex networking skills, and how to really hone-in their targeted cover letter writing skills.
"One of the biggest things I hear from constituents is we need to do something about jobs. When I go back to Washington I'm only one out of 35," said Polis. "What I do control and what I can do is have this intensive job boot camp right here in Thornton."
In the last jobs report in May, unemployment numbers were still terrible, but Polis is trying to remain an optimist, giving a reminder that Colorado has one of the best unemployment rates in the country.
He says he has great faith in the country and believes the nation will come out of this slump, but not without a lot of hard work and legislature, encouraging business growth.
"Government doesn't create long term jobs," Polis said, "the only way we're going to get out of this recession is to make sure businesses start hiring by creating a favorable environment for them to succeed."
The Job Hunters' Boot Camp will include workshops as well as one-on-one resume building sessions, advice from local business leaders, and tips from local colleges and the Adams County Workforce Business Center.
Workshop topics include overcoming obstacles in today's market, interview skills, promoting yourself after age 55, networking your way to a job, green jobs and writing targeted resumes.
The fair will be held at the Mary Carpenter Recreation Center, at 11151 Colorado Boulevard in Thornton, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
