BP Oil Spill: Response and Resources

Statement

Date: June 15, 2010
Location: Washington, DC

The Deepwater Horizon oil spill is the greatest environmental disaster in our nation's history. Gushing an estimated 40,000 barrels of oil (1.7 million gallons) per day, this devastating disaster has plunged the economy and ecosystem of the gulf coast into chaos.

We must do all within our power to contain this spill, fix as much of the environmental damage as we can, and hold guilty parties responsible. President Obama and his administration have acted swiftly to contain this spill and limit its repercussions and Congress will keep fighting to right this horrendous calamity and ensure that an environmental disaster of this magnitude never graces the face of our planet again.
