Peters: "Today's Vote must be the Beginning and not the End of This Process"
U.S. Representative Gary Peters issued the following statement today subsequent to the United Nations Security Council's vote to impose sanctions on Iran in response to the nation's continued expansion of its nuclear program:
"After years of delay, I am glad the United Nations Security Council finally began taking action against Iran's nuclear ambitions. But today's vote must be the beginning and not the end of this process. Congress should follow suit by finishing work on the strong sanctions package I cosponsored as quickly as possible. The United States and the world community must be prepared to take increasingly crippling action if the Iranian regime continues its course toward the development of a nuclear arsenal, which would destabilize the region, threaten the security of Europe and the United States, and pose an existential threat to Israel."
