Lummis Statement on President Obama's Moratorium on Offshore Drilling

Statement

Date: May 27, 2010
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Representative Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.) released the following statement in response to President Obama's press conference on the Gulf Coast oil spill:

"We all agree that energy development must place paramount importance on human safety and environmental stewardship. As the investigation continues into the Gulf oil spill, we must ensure that the development and implementation of the best practices are identified and put into place. We must also recognize that placing a moratorium on offshore drilling will have significant negative impacts for job creation, energy independence and American's wallets. Offshore drilling accounts for 30% percent of America's oil and gas resources. We will not learn from the disaster in the Gulf by succumbing to policy reactions that ensure America will become increasingly dependent on foreign energy."

Lummis is a member of the House Natural Resources Committee.
