Congresswoman Richardson Encourages the People of the 37th District to Support Community Businesses During National Small Business Week

Today, Congresswoman Laura Richardson asked the people of the 37th District to join her in supporting their community by utilizing local businesses in recognition of National Small Business Week, which runs through May 29.
"In recognition of all that small businesses do for our communities, from providing conveniently located goods and services to sponsoring local events and organizations, I am asking the residents of the 37th District to take this opportunity to patronize the diverse businesses in our community to demonstrate to them our continued support," Congresswoman Richardson said.
In an effort to give these local businesses expanded opportunities, Congresswoman Richardson has recently introduced H.R. 4818, the "Not too Small to Succeed in Business Act of 2010." This legislation, which is now under consideration in the U.S. House of Representatives, would alter the Small Business Administration (SBA) program to increase the chances of small businesses owned by socially and economic disadvantaged people to succeed and grow.
"Here in the 37th Congressional District, where unemployment has risen to more than 20 percent in some areas, much of our future economic growth will result directly from small businesses," Congresswoman Richardson said. "They are the engine that drives America and when they are prevented from growing to their full potential, we as a community, a state and a nation suffer and when they prosper, we all prosper."
The "Not too Small to Succeed in Business Act of 2010" would extend the maximum SBA participation period from the current 9 years to 11 years, increase SBA personal income limits by 300 percent, help people expand their small businesses, whether they are corner stores or small manufacturing operations, which will add jobs and improve the economy.
