Statement of Governor Warner on the House of Delegates' Failure to Allow Future Governors to Stand for Re-election
RICHMOND Governor Mark R. Warner today issued the following statement on the 50-50 vote to re-refer the two-term governor resolution to committee.
"Virginia remains alone in the nation with its people unable to re-elect their governor.
"Allowing a governor to stand before the people for re-election promotes accountability and allows a leader the chance - if the people concur - to carry out a long-term vision."
"I applaud Delegate Purkey for his ongoing efforts to allow this common-sense reform, and for keeping his word throughout. "
