Statement of Governor Warner on the Senate's Vote to Remove Kay Slaughter from the State Water Control Board

RICHMOND — Governor Mark R. Warner today issued the following statement on the Senate's vote to remove his appointee from the State Water Control Board.

"My nominee to the State Water Control Board, Kay Slaughter, is eminently qualified. She has now provided the assurances the Senate Privileges and Elections Committee requested last week indicating she has no conflicts of interest and that adequate safeguards are in place to prevent conflicts in the future. Ms. Slaughter has met every test.

"The Senate's 20-19 vote to reject her today is disappointing news to those who care about Virginia's environment."
