House Committee allocates Sematech $5 Million

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Representative John R. Carter (TX-31) is pleased to announce that Sematech has been allocated $5 million. Earlier this week the House Appropriations Committee approved the $5 million that will be used to support and fund the Advanced Processing and Prototyping Center (AP2C), part of the National Technology Initiative, located on the Sematech technology campus in Austin.

Carter said, "I am proud that the first step has been taken to reestablish this partnership."
In late March U.S. Representatives John R. Carter, Lloyd Doggett and Lamar Smith led the Texas delegation in a letter to the House Appropriations Committee to reestablish the original funding partnership. This funding is in addition to the state funding approved by the state legislature earlier this year.

"This is a perfect model of how both state and federal governments, along with universities and businesses can work together to keep out nation on the leading edge," said Carter.

The National Technology Initiative is an example of the federal government, State of Texas, academia, and private industry uniting to provide multi-technology research and fabrication capabilities that will keep the U.S. thriving in a competitive technology industry.

This request follows last year's delegation wide letter that pledged its support to Sematech and expressed commitment to increasing the level of advanced semiconductor research and manufacturing in Texas.
