Statement of Governor Mark R. Warner on the Loss of Space Shuttle Columbia

"The loss of the Space Shuttle earlier today is a tragedy for all Americans, and for the thousands of dedicated men and women who serve our nation in the space program."

"The crew-members of the Columbia were courageous people who were dedicated to advancing the frontiers of human knowledge. One of the members of the crew, Captain David M. Brown, had deep roots in Virginia. He was a graduate of Yorktown High School in Arlington and the College of William and Mary."

"The Commonwealth has a long association with the space program through research programs in many of our universities and the NASA Langley research facility, and I know that all Virginians join me in expressing sympathy to the families and friends of the crew members, and to everyone who serves in NASA."
