Smith, House Ag Committee Hold Farm Bill Field Hearing

Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE) today joined with eleven other members of the House Agriculture Committee in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to review U.S. agriculture policy as part of the process of writing the 2012 Farm Bill. The hearing featured testimony from eleven witnesses on a variety of farm policy issues.

Today's hearing was part of a series held throughout the country and featured testimony from Nebraska, South Dakota, and Minnesota agriculture producers. Rod Gangwish, an irrigated corn and soybean producer from Shelton, was invited by Smith to testify.

"I want to thank Rod for taking time to share his thoughts with the Committee. Agriculture has an important role in the economic, social, and environmental outlook of our country and our world. We should be working to create policies which will strengthen American agriculture and provide long-term stability for our nation's producers to compete in the international market place.

"Such economic policies will foster sustained growth in rural communities. My goal for the next Farm Bill is to build on the successes we have heard about in previous field hearings and to craft policies which will provide long-term stability for our nation's producers," Smith said.
