Issue Position: Economy and Wall Street Reform

Issue Position

Q: What could the federal government have done differently to address the meltdown of the financial industry in 2008 or even prevent it from having occurred in the first place? What kind of Wall Street reforms, if any, would you propose?

A: The Glass--Steagall Act should never have been removed. It should be reinstated. We have an opportunity now to begin the process to pass a Constitutional Amendment to clarify that corporations are not persons under the Constitution. Eisenhower warned of the military industrial complex. The corporate interest is not the public interest.
