Today, following the news that suspected terrorist Faisal Shahzad was captured last night, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) released the following statement:
"There is no higher priority than ensuring the safety of families across our nation. As a member of the House Select Committee on Intelligence and the Appropriations and Judiciary Committees, I work to ensure we have all the tools necessary to prevent terrorism and go after those who would attack our country.
"The attempted attack in New York City's Times Square on Saturday night continues to drive home the point that we live in a dangerous world with ever-evolving threats. Key components of defeating those who seek to harm us include an alert citizenry, as well as a collaborative and coordinated effort by military, intelligence, and local, state and federal law enforcement authorities. The timely awareness and cooperation on Saturday night resulted in a quick and appropriate response and, combined with a sophisticated and aggressive investigation, led to an arrest shortly thereafter.
"Congress continually works with the agencies and organizations responsible for our local law enforcement and federal homeland security in order to provide the state-of-the-art resources, tools, and authority needed to protect against terrorism, and we will continue to respond to those needs."
