Weekly Newsletter - National Day Of Prayer

Statement

Date: May 6, 2010

Today we recognize the National Day of Prayer, an event that invites people of all faiths to pray for our country. In observance of this tradition, I attended the 59th Annual National Day of Prayer Service on Capitol Hill which brought lawmakers, leaders of faith organizations and citizens from across the country to pray for our nation.

I have heard from many of you over the past few weeks about the military's decision to disinvite Rev. Franklin Graham, the 2010 Honorary Chairman, to events at the Pentagon because of recent comments he made about Islam. I joined 35 of my colleagues in signing a letter urging Secretary Gates to reconsider that decision. Read the letter here.

I hope you will take time to pray for our president and all of our leaders. Now more than ever our country needs our prayers.
