Fleming Introduces The HSA Health Care Choices Act

Representative John Fleming, M.D. introduced H.R. 5126, the "Helping Save Americans' Health Care Choices Act," legislation that would restore the popular Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Savings Accounts (FSA) which were taxed and restricted under the recently passed health care legislation. Specifically, H.R. 5126 would repeal the additional taxes on HSA's, repeal the prohibitions on tax-free reimbursements for over-the-counter medications, remove the cap on FSA's and ensure that these more affordable plan choices will remain available to Americans as "qualifying plans" under ObamaCare.

"Millions of Americans rely on their Health Savings Accounts to cover deductibles, insurance co-pays, over-the-counter medications and a plethora of other medical expenses," said Fleming. "As a small businessman and family physician for over 30 years, I've seen firsthand the enormous benefits that HSAs and FSAs provide to patients. The recently passed health care legislation essentially tells these Americans that the government will no longer help them save responsibly for their health care."

"It's ironic that under the guise of cutting costs for Americans, ObamaCare actually targets one of the existing health care plans that has a clear track record of controlling costs," continued Fleming. "If the President and Liberals in Congress are serious about cutting costs, then I encourage them to cosponsor this important legislation."
