Titus Supports Landmark Measure To Support Veterans And Caregivers

Congresswoman Dina Titus of Nevada's Third District continued to build upon her strong record of support for Nevada's troops and veterans with her support of S. 1963, the Caregivers and Veterans Omnibus Health Services Act, yesterday. This legislation has been hailed as "landmark" by veterans groups and is supported by the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Disabled American Veterans, among others. It will help meet the many hardships and sacrifices associated with lengthy recovery and rehabilitation from severe injuries.

"As members of Congress, we make a solemn commitment to care for our nation's brave men and women when they return home from their service to our country," Congresswoman Titus said. "With a large number of our Iraq and Afghanistan veterans returning home with serious injuries, it is critical that we provide them and their families with the support they need during the recovery process."

The Caregivers and Veterans Omnibus Health Services Act provides support to family members and others who care for disabled, ill, or injured veterans; enhances health services for the 1.8 million women veterans; expands mental health services for veterans and health care access for veterans in rural areas; and prohibits copayments for veterans who are catastrophically disabled.

This support is vital for the wounded veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan and their families, as about 20 percent of active duty, 15 percent of reserve, and 25 percent of retired and separated members have a family member or friend who has been forced to leave a job to care for the veteran full-time.
