Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE) today released the following statement marking the 40th anniversary of Earth Day.
"Earth Day is meant to bring about a better awareness and appreciation of our natural resources. Farmers and ranchers were the first environmentalists, maintaining and improving their land to pass it down to future generations.
"This spirit of healthy use and conservation continues to this day. Agricultural land provides habitat for 75 percent of our nation's wildlife. Thanks to improvements in technology and production practices, farmers and ranchers are producing more food on less land. This Earth Day, let's remember our nation's original stewards of the land: our farmers and ranchers," Smith said.
