Sessions On Long-Term Unemployment In America

Statement

Congressman Pete Sessions (TX-32) today released the following statement on continued unemployment in America:

"Over 44 percent of jobless Americans are experiencing long-term unemployment -- over 27 weeks without a job. Along with record spending, record taxation, and record deficits, Speaker Pelosi and Democrats in Congress can add another record to their résumé: the highest long-term unemployment rate in at least 70 years.

"While each record is a shame, long-term unemployment is diminishing the long-term welfare of over 6.5 million Americans -- including over 212,000 unemployed Americans currently subsisting on government unemployment benefits for nearly two years. Americans are now witnessing the government-perpetuated cycle of a threatened private sector and government dependence. Democrats' tax-and-spend economic policies have failed to build confidence in free markets for a job-creating economy.

"With three years of control in Congress and over a year of one-party rule in Washington , Democrats are solely responsible for the job-killing, big-government policies that continue to deteriorate the free enterprise system. I can only hope that the American people gain more responsible leaders in Washington before Democrats' policies of fiscal ruin become irreversible."
