Statement of Governor Warner on the House of Delegates' Vote to Pass the Seat Belt Enforcement Bill

Governor Mark R. Warner today issued the following statement on the House of Delegates to enact a bill allowing police to enforce Virginia's existing seatbelt law.

"Today's vote by the House of Delegates is a victory for the people of Virginia. Making the failure to wear a seatbelt a primary offense is a common sense reform that will save lives, reduce medical costs in the Commonwealth, and help educate our children.

"I want to thank Senator Mims, Delegates Almand and May, and the other members who worked tirelessly to win passage of this bill. Of greater importance, I want to thank the thousands of sworn law enforcement officers and transportation safety advocates who took the time to fight for this bill. Their compelling testimony has made a life-saving difference.

"My hope is that the Senate will concur with this action and send this to me for my signature."
