Boozman: This is A Democracy Not A Monarchy

As state attorneys general file federal lawsuits challenging the constitutionality of the health care law, the battle continues in Congress as the Senate debates the reconciliation bill.

The health care overhaul narrowly passed the U.S. House of Representatives on Sunday but Congressman John Boozman (R-AR) continues to voice his opposition to the law.

In a speech on the House Floor today, Boozman said "America is a democracy, not a monarchy, but you wouldn't know it by the way the American people's voices have been ignored."

The following is verbatim of the Floor speech delivered by Boozman which can be found on YouTube.

"Madam Speaker, America is a democracy, not a monarchy, but you wouldn't know it by the way the American people's voices have been ignored by President Obama, Speaker Pelosi and Senator Reid.

The American people are angry they're not being adequately represented in Washington. As representatives of the people it is necessary that we fix this bill and give Americans what they want, quality and affordable health care reform, not increased taxes and sweetheart deals. We must fight to repeal and replace this bill. We must fight to uphold the Constitution of the United States.

I'm here today to speak for the people of Arkansas, and the people of America, who are in overwhelming opposition to the flawed health care bill. We see how the government is infringing on our rights. The American people have had enough and want to see legal action. I too am concerned that this bill is unconstitutional and am supportive of states challenging this flawed health care bill. We must abide by States rights but this bill is just another violation of those rights and it's something we must undo."

Boozman is a cosponsor of H.R. 4903, legislation that repeals the health care overhaul and also signed The Club for Growth pledge to repeal the bill.
