Almost three weeks after promising behind closed doors to lead the charge on repealing health insurance reform, Republican Congressman Mark Kirk will hold his first availability to the press. Today he'll have a chance to explain why he is working so hard to obstruct President Obama's agenda and undo sweeping health insurance reforms that will give small businesses tax credits, provide coverage to children with pre-existing conditions, and help seniors afford prescription drugs.
"President Obama and Democrats have been working hard to pass meaningful reforms and move this country forward," said Alexi for Illinois Communications Director Kathleen Strand. "From saying he wants to make President Obama a 'one-termer' and vowing to lead the effort to repeal health insurance reform, to voting against the jobs bill and against financial reforms to rein in CEO pay, Mark Kirk has worked to oppose the president at every turn - yet he has never answered why he wants to see President Obama to fail."
Eighteen days have passed since Kirk vowed to repeal the health care bill, according the "Tick-Tock Repeal It?" clock, and just yesterday the Alexi for Illinois campaign released a video, "Repeal It? Really?" that featured reactions from the president, MSNBC host Rachel Maddow and Chicagoans. The video illustrates a resoundingly negative reaction to Kirk's position.
Congressman Kirk is not only undermining President Obama through his private statements and votes against Illinois families, but in his rhetoric surrounding the health insurance reform bill. The Alexi for Illinois campaign released a voluminous fact check, included below, disproving the outrageous falsehoods being peddled by Congressman Kirk and his extreme Republican friends.
"Congressman Kirk can't seem to get his facts straight on a bill he pledged to repeal before he even read it," Strand said. "Instead of making false claims and desperate negative attacks on Alexi, he should explain to Illinois families why he wants to let insurance companies drop coverage for children with pre-existing conditions and take away tax credits for Illinois small businesses that will make them more competitive."
