Van Hollen Statement On The CBO Score Of The Final Health Insurance Reform Legislation

Today Congressman Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), Assistant to the Speaker, issued the following statement on the Congressional Budget Office's (CBO) score of the final health insurance reform legislation:

"The Congressional Budget Office today has given a significant boost to our health reform and deficit reduction efforts, concluding that our legislation will help 95 percent of Americans get health insurance and reduce the deficit by more than a trillion dollars over the next two decades. As we move toward passage of this historic reform legislation, this announcement provides critical information to both Members of Congress and the American people on the positive impacts of our bill.

"Democrats remain steadfast in our commitment to health insurance reform that will lower costs, rein in the insurance industry, and provide affordable coverage for an additional 32 million Americans. The health insurance industry and its allies have done everything they could to stop this effort, including an unprecedented campaign of misinformation and millions of dollars in opposition advertising. If the health insurance industry and special interests succeed in blocking this legislation -- one of the biggest deficit reduction bills in nearly 20 years -- families will continue to lose their health insurance and we will miss a unique opportunity to significantly bring spending under control."
