Cassidy Applauds Earmark Moratorium

Statement

Date: March 11, 2010
Location: Washington, DC

Louisiana Congressman Bill Cassidy issued the following statement after the House Republicans instituted a party-wide moratorium on earmarks:

"Washington must control spending. Massive federal debts threaten our economy and way of life."

"The current earmark process lacks the transparency and accountability that taxpayers deserve. It has come to typify the worst of Washington. Until the earmark process is reformed to give taxpayers confidence that their money is spent wisely, Congress should not earmark."

Cassidy is a longtime proponent of earmark reform. In addition to swearing off appropriations earmarks, he and Congresswoman Jackie Speier (D-CA) introduced a sweeping earmark reform proposal to strengthen transparency and accountability in the earmarking process.
