Lummis Praises House Republican Ban On Earmarks

U.S. Representative Cynthia Lummis, R-Wyo., supported a House Republican Conference movement to adopt an immediate, unilateral moratorium on all earmarks. Since taking office in January 2009, Lummis has not requested a single earmark.

"American families are being forced to cut back on their expenses and make sacrifices to deal with the effects of the economic downturn," Lummis said. "They are right to be frustrated with the inability of Congress to control its own fiscal appetite as their tax dollars support an endless trough of pet projects. It is way past time to restore transparency, fairness and fiscal restraint to the earmark process."

"That is why I support the House Republican plan to adopt an immediate, unilateral moratorium on all earmarks, including tax and tariff-related earmarks. Today's earmark moratorium shows the American people that House Republicans are prepared to end business as usual and change the way Washington spends their money."
