Boozman Joins Bicameral Effort Opposing Health Care Overhaul

Members of the House of Representatives GOP Doctors Caucus joined GOP Senate doctors in expressing their opposition to the health care reform legislation the House is expected to vote on in the coming days.

In a morning press conference, the health care providers explained why the American people and the nation's doctors are concerned about the majority's health reform bill.

U.S. Representative John Boozman (R-AR), an optometrist and member of the GOP Doctors Caucus called for an up-or-down vote on the legislation instead of the legislative gymnastics Speaker Pelosi and President Obama are supporting.

"We all agree America needs health care reform, but we want a bill that can pass on its merits, not procedural maneuvering. Last year Congress was forced to vote on bills lawmakers didn't have time to read and now President Obama and Speaker Pelosi want to a pass a bill without a vote," Boozman said during the press conference.

"This is an abuse of power and a complete disregard of the way our Founders envisioned our government working for the people. The more we debate this disastrous bill, the more Arkansans are opposed from the Arkansas Medical Society to Arkansas business leaders and an overwhelming majority of my constituents. I am proud to stand with my colleagues and tell the American people we are doing everything we can to make sure this legislation fails," Boozman said.
