Graves Statement On Obama's Latest Health Care Push

Statement

Date: March 10, 2010
Location: Washington, DC

Today, President Obama will travel to St. Louis in a last ditch effort to convince Missourians to support a costly government takeover of health care. House Small Business Committee Ranking Member Sam Graves (R-MO) issued the following statement:

"Despite their pledge to the American people that jobs would be the number one focus in 2010, the President and Majority Leaders are continuing their anti-business agenda by focusing all their attention on forcing passage of a massive government takeover of health care. The current health care reform proposal will raise health insurance premiums, add billions to our national debt, hike taxes and make it even more difficult for small businesses to add employees or expand their operations.

With unemployment still hovering around ten percent, families and businesses cannot afford more regulations and red tape from Washington that will make jobs scarcer and further slow our economic recovery. I know that we can craft common sense reform legislation that will fix the problems in our health care system without unfairly punishing small businesses and piling more debt on future generations. If the President is serious about helping small businesses, then he should refuse to support any health care bill that adds more taxes and mandates on Main Street. It is past time for the President and Majority Leaders to honor their pledge and focus on enacting legislation that will stabilize our economy and encourage job creation."
