Boozman Statement On Health Care Summit
U.S. Representative John Boozman (R-AR) today issued the following statement on President Obama's Health Care Summit:
"There are fundamental differences in the health care reform proposals put forth by the majority and minority. I am not confident that a health care summit will iron out these opposing views to create a health care bill that provides access to quality, affordable care.
"If President Obama is serious about working in a bipartisan manner to accomplish meaningful health care reform we must craft a bill from scratch. Making small concessions on unpopular provisions and adjusting the proposals to gain support from the minority on House and Senate bills is not what the American people want.
"Like the majority of Americans, I understand reform needs to include tort reform, opening up competition to insurers across state lines and allowing individuals to own their health plans and allowing small businesses to pool their resources and join associated health care plans. These are free market principles that will work to bring down the costs of health care.
"I have the ideas hardworking Arkansans have provided and I am ready to give them to President Obama and Speaker Pelosi when I am invited to be part of the discussion. Unfortunately, most of my colleagues on the GOP Doctors Caucus weren't invited to discuss the various ways we might be able to agree to overhaul health care although we have real world experience in not only medicine, but in many cases, running our own small businesses that make us a vital participant in any discussions on health care reform."
