U.S. Senate nominee Alexi Giannoulias released the following statement:

"My thoughts are with the people of Chile who have been devastated by this tragic earthquake, as well as with those across the Pacific basin who have suffered in its aftermath. I also want to commend the federal, state and local authorities here at home and abroad who have demonstrated an extraordinary level of expertise, preparedness and vigilance. As we breathe a sigh of relief that our fellow citizens in Hawaii are safe, we offer our resources, prayers, and support to Chileans and others as they rebuild and recover in the days and weeks to come."
