Boozman On "Stimulus': This Is Not What We Were Promised

Statement

U.S. Representative John Boozman (R-AR) today issued the following statement on the one year anniversary of the
so-called "stimulus.'

"The so-called stimulus has been nothing more than a spending bill. Arkansans know we cannot borrow and spend our way to prosperity, when will the Administration get this message?

"The question the people of Arkansas are asking is "where are the jobs?' Instead of an increase in 32,000 jobs projected by the White House for the Natural State, we've experienced an increase in unemployment. This was not what we were promised.

"The "stimulus' is clearly a waste of taxpayer money and a big flop. Infrastructure improvements like those to Highway 112 and the Northwest Arkansas and Fort Smith airports would put people to work. Instead, we are spending money on silly pet projects like the $3.4 million to help turtles cross the road in Florida and the $7 million bridge in Nebraska to help 168 people avoid a 30 second wait at a local train crossing. If this wasteful spending isn't bad enough, the Administration's monitoring of stimulus funds showed that in the past year money has also gone to non existent congressional districts and zip codes.

"This is unfortunate because it didn't have to be this way. Instead of funneling money to projects that will create jobs right away, and providing tax relief to small businesses and families, the "stimulus' created a bigger government and an unprecedented debt passed to our future generations."
