Sessions Statement On President's FY2011 Budget

Statement

Date: Feb. 1, 2010

U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions today released the following statement regarding President Obama's fiscal year 2011 budget proposal:

"After pledging a new-found commitment to fiscal responsibility to the American people last week, President Obama today released a budget blueprint for record spending, unprecedented deficits, and trillion-dollar tax increases at time when our nation can least afford it.

"The American people now know that President Obama's "spending freeze' is really a record $3.8 Trillion spending spree that will burn a hole through the budget with a $1.6 Trillion deficit -- the highest in American history. The American people now know that President Obama's plan to "reduce' the deficit will really more than double the national debt in five years. And the American people now know that President Obama's new focus on jobs includes a $2 Trillion job-killing tax increase on the American people.

"This disconnect with reality is a disservice to the American people and demonstrates reckless disregard for the financial future of our nation. Simply put, it is unsustainable and irresponsible. The American people deserve a government that respects their hard-earned tax dollars and operates within the confines of reality. That is why I will stand with my Republican colleagues in offering better solutions that will cut spending, control debt, and keep taxes low to grow jobs.

"Like last year, President Obama's budget spends too much, taxes too much, and borrows too much. House Republicans reject this fiscal recklessness, as have the American people."
