Fleming Comments On Vote To Raise Debt Limit

Washington, DC -- "Last week, President Obama promised Americans that jobs would remain this country's main focus. Yet, with the economy languishing, health care costs skyrocketing, and unemployment at its highest level in decades, Congress has determined that the answer to our problems is to simply borrow more money to satisfy the Majority's unquenchable appetite for government spending.

"It is clear that the policies of more taxes, runaway spending and record debt are not working and have had a chilling effect on job creation across this country. This reckless legislation marks the sixth debt limit increase in just three years, reaching an almost 60% increase since the Democrats took over Congress.

"Republicans continue to offer common-sense solutions for the problems facing this country. I urge the President to consider these ideas, so we can begin to work on ways to rein in runaway federal spending and advance policies that will put Americans back to work instead of continuing to put future generations further into debt with the type of senseless legislation the House passed today."
