Recap Of Chambers Co Meeting

Statement

I recently held a public meeting at Bridges Travel Plaza in Cusseta.

The primary issue I heard from folks is their strong concerns about the economy and the safety of our homeland.

If you didn't have a chance to attend the public meeting, I wanted to update you on some of the issues we discussed.

Health care reform was mentioned and I continue to be opposed to the current health care proposal, and am concerned about its long-term costs to our nation.

Our stalled economy and Congress' wasteful spending recently -- bills I opposed -- is leading to harmful and astronomical deficits.

Folks are also concerned, as I am, about the possibility of the detainees at Guantanamo Bay being brought to U.S. soil.

Congress should keep Guantanamo open for business instead of bringing those terrorists here.

Concerns continue during these tough economic times and Congress needs to focus on helping create jobs, not more government spending that can hurt America's future competitiveness.

Chambers County, like most of East Alabama, is struggling and I hope Congress will come up with common sense ways to give folks some relief.
